Abstract: The problem of electrical power oscillation in the power system occurs continuously, with varying severity of impact on the transmission in Thailand. Power oscillation mainly occurs as a result of inter-area oscillations, which often leads to power transmission losses and adversely affects the power plant supplying power to the grid. To enhance the stability of a power system, a power system stabilizer (PSS) is one of control mechanisms installed in many power plants. Suitable PSS parameters can help reducing the power swing. In general, PSS parameters is designed based on a typical operating condition of the power system. In this research, a multi-objective optimization algorithm based on pole placement technique is proposed to find a robust PSS parameter set. The proposed strategy searches for an optimal PSS parameter based on multiple operating conditions of the generator. Preliminary simulation results on a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) model show that the proposed PSS parameters design method can further improve the robustness of the overall power systems performance under different types of disturbance.
