Abstract: Monobromoacetonitriles (MBAN) and Dibromoacetonitriles (DBAN) were two parts of nitrogen disinfection by products (N-DBPs), having the potential to be carcinogenicity cancer. The purpose of this study was removed the 2 types of N-DBPs (MBAN and DBAN). An absorbent material (AC) prepared by carbonization of calico fabric was used as an adsorbent to remove MBAN and DBAN in aqueous solutions. Batch adsorption was used to examine the MBAN and DBAN removal. The amount of two types were measured through the Gas – Chromatography. The Characterization of absorption material was investigated by using N2 adsorption – desorption, PZC, morphology and texture and Elemental Characteristics. The result indicates that the percent removal of MBAN and DBAN reaches 81.6 and 97.2 respectively with carbon dosage of 0.150 g/L. Based on the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, the maximum adsorption capacity (qmax) was 151.51 and 303.03 mgc/g. In order to improve the removal efficiency, The activated absorbent material (AC-F) was modified by Ferric Chloride (FeCl3) onto their surface. The results showed that the percent removal was 97.2 and 96.9, respectively and qmax was 416.67 and 476.19 mgc/g, respectively.
