Abstract: | This paper aims to study the construction of the Chinese national consciousness of the Tai Lue in Xishuangbanna through studying contents of the Chinese language textbooks required by the government of the People’s Republic of China. This series of Chinese language textbooks, including18 volumes totally, is used by first-year students of primary school to third-year students of junior school during 2000-2016, required by Chinese governments. The research findings indicate that in Chinese language learning, there is a focus on instilling a sense of Chinese national identity among Thai learners. This is achieved through the creation of significant speeches encompassing three key aspects: China as a country with distinctiveness, a country with good governance and politics, and a country with moral values. The Chinese language curriculum includes content related to geography, history, culture, and politics, aiming to enable Thai learners to acquire knowledge about Chinese identity. This approach helps foster a sense of belonging and awareness that they are part of the People's Republic of China. |
