Abstract: | This thesis proposes an operation battery energy storage system control technique by optimal real-time charge/discharge active and reactive power to reduce the excessive on-load tap changer operation of substation transformer due to the power fluctuation of renewable energy sources in the distribution system. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is used to determine the optimal operation of the battery energy storage system in real-time processing. This technique is performed using DIgSILENT PowerFactory and MATLAB program. The IEEE 123-bus is used to confirm the accuracy of the proposed technique. Furthermore, the Provincial Electricity Authority of Thailand (PEA) at Mae Sa Riang District, Mae Hong Son Province distribution system is selected as a case study due to the excessive operation of on-load tap changer problem caused by power fluctuation of renewable energy in this area. The simulation test results show that the proposed technique can reduce the number of on-load tap changer operations more than the conventional technique. Moreover, the proposed technique can be implemented together with the conventional technique to increase system performance. |
