Abstract: | The purposes of this research were to (1) investigate the relationships among job autonomy, co-worker support, performance feedback, positive orientation, and work engagement, and (2) examine the predictive power of job autonomy, co-worker support, performance feedback, and positive orientation to work engagement of employees in a state agency. The research sample comprised 274 full-time employees in a state agency, the sample group was selected by convenience sampling. The instruments used in this study were (1) a Job Autonomy Scale (2) Co-Worker Support Scale (3) a Performance Feedback Scale (4) a Positive Orientation Scale (5) a Work Engagement Scale and (6) a demographic questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The research results were as follows: 1. Job autonomy had a significantly positive correlation with Work engagement at the .01 level (r = .32). 2. Co-worker support had a significantly positive correlation with Work engagement at the .01 level (r = .42). 3. Performance Feedback had a significantly positive correlation with Work engagement at the .01 level (r = .24). 4. Positive Orientation had a significantly positive correlation with Work engagement at the .01 level (r = .52). 5. The findings demonstrated that predictive variables consisting of job autonomy, co-worker support, performance feedback and positive orientation significantly explained the variance of work engagement of employees in a state agency (p < .01; R^2= .42). |
