Abstract: Older persons with dependency who have good food literacy will be able to manage their consumption behavior. This correlational descriptive research aimed to determine the relationship between the food literacy and food consumption behavior of dependent elders. The sample comprised 88 dependent elders residing in Mae Wang district of Chiang Mai province. The period of data collection was between July to September 2021. The tools for data collection were a personal data and illness information questionnaire, a food literacy questionnaire which has a cronbach coefficient of 0.82 and the quality of the tool for content conformity from 6 experts, the content conformity index was 0.97, and a dietary behavior questionnaire which got a CVI of 0.97 and checked for stability (stability reliability) got a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.83. The statistics for data analysis were descriptive statistics and Pearson’s product moment correlation. The study show that the food literacy and the consumption behavior were at moderate level. The relationship between the food literacy and the consumption behavior were statistically and significantly at a moderate level of p < 0.001. The result of this study can be used as the basic data for health personnel to promote consumption behavior of aid the promotion of good dietary behavior in dependent elderly.
