Abstract

The topic of study is comparison cost and returns of pineapple planting with and without certification of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP). The objectives are (1) to compare the cost and returns and (2) to study problems and obstacles in growing pineapples certified by the GAP standard. The scope of study is in Mueang Lampang District, Lampang Province. The data is collected by Depth Interview. The target audiences of the first objective are four farmers: two with GAP and two without GAP, while 23 farmers with GAP (counting 20% of all farmers with GAP in Lampang Province) are for the second objective. The study shows that (1) the cost of pineapple planting certified by GAP is higher than without GAP certification (2) planting pineapple certified by GAP generate higher returns than non-certified due to the lower break-even point and average price, and faster payback period. Thus, the investment is worthwhile and profitable, and have better returns (3) the sources of water used in planting process certified by GAP is the main problem.
