Abstract: | This research aims at investigating factors enhancing the transition to the fully smart transportation system and estimating the transition period to the fully Automated Driving System (ADS) in Thailand. Therefore, it is vital to investigate people’s attitude toward ADS because they are the final evaluators on the adoption of new technologies. The contribution of this research is identifying the driving factors to attain the high level of trust in “emergency detection system”, which is a key technology of autonomous vehicles (AVs). The ordered-probit model is applied to examine the marginal effects of driving factors to determine the different levels of confidence in “emergency detection system” in the next 1, 5, 10, and 20 years. The results illustrate that people living in Bangkok are likely to have a higher level of confidence in the ADS’s safety system. Surprisingly, income seems to play a weak role in people’s trust. Furthermore, the result of this study suggests that Thailand will not achieve the fully ADS in the next 10 years. |
