Abstract: The wastewater treatment system from the canteen of Hana Microelectronics Public Company Limited Branch 2 is designed using the biological wastewater treatment process with the IFAS process. The current system operation is not suitable for the actual amount of wastewater entering the system that is 10 times smaller than the designed one, resulting in excessive consumption of operating costs. The objective of this independent study was to determine the suitable sludge age for treating the current canteen wastewater. Experiments were carried out using a non-recirculating sludge-free laboratory reactor. The sludge retention time was set at 5, 10, and 15 days. The system was operated using canteen wastewater with an average total BOD of 164 mg/ l. The results showed that the sludge retention time at 5, 10. and 15 days had 94.98, 97.29, and 96.32 percent of BOD removal efficiency, respectively. The BOD removal efficiency of the three sludge retention times was not significantly different at the 0.05 level. The effluent of the 3 sludge retention times had BOD values not exceeding the set settlement standards, less than 20 mg/l. The results show that the sludge retention period of 5 days is sufficient for the current Hana canteen wastewater treatment to pass the standard. At 5 days of sludge retention time requires 1.66 kg of oxygen per day, and produces 0.11 cubic meters of sludge disposal rate per day for the current rate of wastewater entering the system at 13 cubic meters per day. At 10 and 15 days of sludge ฉ retention time, the amount of oxygen required increases 1.17 and 1.27 time of that of 5-day, but the sludge disposal rates reduce 1.23 and 1.49 times of that of 5-day, respectively.
