Abstract: | Background: At the present, dental implants have become a part of dental treatment to replace the natural teeth and to improve chewing ability, speaking and esthetic. Several studies showed that dental implants are safe with relatively high success rates. Although dental implants have been developed for better biological and mechanical properties, failures can still be found. Objectives: To assess the success rate of dental implant which had been restored in the Department of Prosthodontics, Faculty of Dentistry, Chiang Mai University, from 2015 to 2019. Methods: A retrospective study was investigated from data collected from patient who had dental implant placement in 2019 back to 2015. Recall a single visit for clinical and radiographic examination for maintenances 1 to 5 years after treatment. The outcomes in 130 dental implants (53 patients) were recorded. Success rate was evaluated in accordance with the criteria of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, 2007. The reliability was tested in dental implants that exclude from this research. Kappa analysis was 0.87. Results: One hundred-thirty implants in 53 patients treated by post-graduated students in Prosthodontics, Chiang Mai university were follow-up. All implants were still survived in the oral cavity. The total success rate was 91.5%, satisfactory survival rate was 1.5%, compromised survival rate 4.6%% and failure rate 2.3%. And when classify to period after treatment 1 – 2 years and 3 – 5 years found the implant success rate 90.4% and 92.3% respectively. (Fisher’s Exact test; p-value = 0.754) Conclusions: Total success rate appeared in high percentage. Although dental implant that categorized in success group, but some implants had clinical features as mucositis. And this study found 3 implants failure. Therefore, Yearly maintenance is required for future implant treatment to prevent biologic complications and increase implant success.
