Abstract: This rescarch introduces an alternative approach for solving the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) which takes pollutant cmission into account by considering vehicle weight and loading weight and velocity factors. The objective is to minimize pollutant emission from fuel consumption and applies Cuckoo Search Optimization (CSO) to solve this problem. The pollutants which are considered are carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). Then the computation results were compared with the results from using The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). This study was divided into 6 cases classified by type of data sets and each case consisted of 3 levels by problem size such as small size (5 stations), medium size (50 stations) and large size (100 stations). The number of vehicles was fixed. The computational results were analyzed as total travel time, total distance, the number of total pollutant emission and computation time. The comparisons shown that the results solved by CSO were better than PSO. The number of pollutant emission and total distance were 35.62% and 36.25% for all problems size. Moreover, fuel consumption was 12.00% lower for small problem size. The computation time was 55.56% lower. The propose algorithm can be solve local minimum problem and get global minimum value by using Levy flights.
