Abstract: | The purposes of this study were 1) To explore the MPs political roles who had advocated the Marriage Equality Bill in Thailand 2) To examine MPs’ s ideas about advocating the Marriage Equality Bill in Thailand and 3) To find out the advocating problems for the Marriage Equality Bill in Thailand. The methodology of this research was a qualitative research, documentary inquiry and In-depth Interview with semi-structured interview form. Moreover, Key Informants were from Snowball sampling technique. The result revealed that MPs’ s political roles for advocating the Marriage Equality Bill in Thailand were 2 types, initial advocacy and intense advocacy for formulating sexual diversity in political party policy and providing alternative ways for marriage equality bill. The individual actors in the public policy decision making were important for approval and related with MPs’ s advocacy level. The findings indicated that MPs, sexual diversity people (LGBTIQ), who advocated, had more responsible than others and they worked with sexual diversity (LGBTIQ) civil society groups for creating suitable public awareness about sexual diversity. However, the key problem was unaccepted thoughts on gender in Thailand were covered by mythology, conservative thinking specially patriarchy thinking. Moreover, it reflected to conflict among interest groups and inequality not only between male and female but also sexual diversity. From the study, it was found that sexual diversity policies were used as a tool to encourage people to vote for Thailand’s 2019 Elections. The Political Roles of Members of Parliament (MPs) for advocating sexual diversity policies have not been supported. Therefore, MPs advocated to build networking and expressing with civil society, interest groups as well as increasing awareness of gender equality. The researcher suggested that Thai Government should create equality rights understanding for acceptance of diversity. Additionally, provide marriage equality rights. Consequently, politicians, MPs, commissions and others should expedite the process of advocating. It also needs to integrate with civil society and mass people. Using communication technology is a tool to create impetus so that the marriage equality rights can be enforced in Thailand. |
