Abstract

This thesis title is ““Phaya Keaw Isan”: Pragmatic and Metaphor Perspectives” consists of two objectives. The first, this thesis aims to analysis pragmatic perspectives of Phaya Keaw Isan. The second, the study aims to analysis metaphor perspectives of Phaya Keaw Isan. The data collection of the thesis is done by the investigations of 528 dialogue of Phaya Keaw Isan between man and woman. The results of the study found that Phaya Keaw Isan consists of four topics. Firstly, co-operative principle in the Phaya Keaw Isan includes the violating of co-operative principle, and the observing of co-operative principle. Secondly, courting speech act in Phaya Keaw Isan consists of satirizing, humbling, complimenting, asserting, informing, expressing, questioning, answering questions, requesting, showing confidence, inviting, greeting, and saying goodbye. The third element is presupposition in Phaya Keaw Isan. These include patriarchy, seniority, materialism, behaviorism, agriculture, culture, and nature. The last element of Phaya Keaw Isan is metaphor. These include the metaphor of man, and woman.
