Abstract: | Saraphi district is a smallest district located in Chiang Mai province, but has a population density second only to Mueang district. The district consists mostly of agricultural area, with peri-urban and rural setting. According to the Chiang Mai Province Healthcare System Development Project (Saraphi Health Model) (2015), Saraphi population was currently facing stress problem. Thus, the objective of this research was to study the factors affecting the happiness of farmers in Saraphi district. The samples were 264 farmers from Saraphi district, Chiang Mai province. Data were collected by mean of interview with a questionnaire based on the “HAPPINOMETER: The Happiness Self-Assessment” by the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University. Descriptive statistics used for data analysis included percentage, mean, maximum, minimum, and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested using regression analysis. The results shown that the farmer average happiness score was at the "Happy" level. Factors correlated to happiness of farmers included financial savings, career stability, pride of being a farmer, willingness and satisfaction of serving the public, participation in family or community activities, assistance from community members, level of physical exercise, quality of healthcare provided by agencies, and needs for personal/life development, with statistical significance at the 0.01 level (p<0.01). In addition, gender, communication among farmers, and working with a collective manner also affected the happiness of farmers with statistical significance at the 0.05 level (p<0.05). |
