Abstract: Breastfeeding has enormous benefits to mothers, infants, and families. Fathers also have a significant role in breastfeeding. The purpose of this descriptive correlational research was to explore fathers’ knowledge, attitudes, and involvement in breastfeeding. The subjects were 102 first time fathers who were present for their infants’ 6-8 week check-up at the well-baby clinic, Health Promotion Hospital, Chiang Mai from July to September 2014. The research tools comprised of the Father’s Knowledge of Breastfeeding Questionnaire, the Father’s Attitudes to Breastfeeding Questionnaire developed by Darunee Howkanta, Nantaporn Sansiriphun and Kannika Kantaruksa (2013), and the Father’s Involvement in Breastfeeding Questionnaire developed by Natnari Khamaurai, Nantaporn Sansiriphun and Kannika Kantaruksa based on the concept of Lamb (2000) and reviewed literature. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to analyze the data. Results of study revealed that: 1. The majority of fathers (59.80%) were highly involved in breastfeeding with the mean score of 108.77. (SD = 15.64). 2. Fathers’ knowledge of breastfeeding was positively correlated with their involvement in breastfeeding (r = .27, p <.01). 3. Fathers’ attitudes towards breastfeeding was positively correlated with their involvement in breastfeeding (r = .21, p <.05). These findings suggest that fathers should receive accurate information about breastfeeding and should be encouraged to have positive attitudes toward breastfeeding which will result in their greater involvement in breastfeeding
