Abstract: The objectives of this study were to construct and employ learning and teaching plans using tales to develop skills in reading for main ideas of Prathom Suksa 3 students. Samples of the study were 10 Prathom Suksa 3 students in the first semester of the 2014 academic year, BanPae School, Chomthong Distract, Chiang Mai. Study tools included 13 learning and teaching plans for 13 house and a 30 – item multiple - choices test. Datas from the test were analyzing using percentage, compared with the set criteria of 65 %, and then presented via tables and description. The findings indicated that 1) the 13 learning and teaching plans could improve students’ skills in reading for main ideas 2) students’ average reading for main ideas and every students passed the set criteria. score was 88 % which was higher than the set criteria of 65 %.
