Abstract: The present study has the objectives to explore the operational features and analyze the factors affecting business potential of Chom Thong Credit Union Cooperative, Ltd. The needed information was collected by means of interviewing 20 committee members and 323 members of this credit union cooperative. Analysis was based on the results of descriptive statistics including percentage and arithmetic mean and Likert scale rating. The study found that in 2013 Chom Thong Credit Union Cooperative had 1,700 memberships, 76,892,430 baht total share value, 38,462,547 baht received deposits, 121,399,866 baht lending; and 6,558,727 baht net profit in 2012 budget year. This cooperative had established welfare benefits for its members in three cases. In case of member’s death, it will provide death benefit proportional to the length of membership and the amount of share capital. In case of childbirth, it will open 1,000 baht saving account for the member’s child. In case of member’s marriage, it will open 1,000 baht saving account for the newlywed. On factors affecting the business potential, analysis was performed on three groups of factor namely the committee, the members, and the operational structure. The findings related to the committee revealed the average score of management ability of committee members to be 87 indicating a good performance, 89 % participation in committee meeting and 86 % participation in training activities which were also a good extent of participation, and 85% of committee members having very high satisfaction with the organization. The study on 323 cooperative members found that the members had knowledge about the organization at the moderate level as the average score was 73.6, 18 % of them had put their savings with the cooperative while 68.5 % used the cooperative’s loan services, and 66.3 % expressed their high satisfaction with the organization. In terms of operational structure, it was found that the cooperative had established a clear working framework involving division of functions and responsibilities, working rules and regulation, and service provision. The analysis of financial status and performance of Chom Thong Credit Union Cooperative was based on the standard criteria of the Cooperative Auditing Department. The financial ratios that met the standards were current ratio equal to 1.08 (the standard is no less than 0.6), debt to equity ratio equal to 0.45 (the standard is not exceeding 1.99), net profit margin equal to 66.15 (the standard is no less than 32.04), and return on asset ratio equal to 4.82 (the standard is no less than 2.76); and all these ratios indicated that this cooperative had a good debt management and could manage to earn favorable net profit. Meanwhile, it was found that the asset turnover was equal to 0.08 (the standard is no less than 0.09), and the return on equity ratio was equal to 7.04 (the standard is no less than 8.05). These two financial ratios failed to pass the standards set by the Cooperative Auditing Department thus meaning that this organization could not make efficient use of its capital fund to generate good profit.
