The objectives of this cross-sectional study were to examine stress and stress management among prisoners in prison in Chiang Mai province. The convenience sampling technique was used to select 322 prisoners for the study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used to examine general data. Independent T-test and one-way ANOVA statistics were used to compare stress and stress management. Person's correlation statistics were used to examine the relationship between stress and stress management among prisoners. The results revealed that the majority of the samples were male, with an average age of 34.57 years and a secondary education. Most of them were first-time offenders who committed drug-related crimes. They will be sentenced to 3 - 6 years in prison and will be released after 1 to 3 years. According to the study's findings, 46.9% of the sample group reported moderate stress, while 39.1% reported high levels of stress. In terms of stress management, 72.4% of the samples were found to have a medium level of stress management, while 22.0% had a low level of stress management. When comparing stress according to the sample's personal factors, the results revealed no difference. When stress management was compared based on the sample's personal factors, it was discovered that there were differences between factors such as sex, number of times punished, and duty and work in prison (p0.001, 0.029, and 0.001, respectively). The results of an examination of the relationship between stress and stress management among prisoners revealed that there was no correlation. The study's findings could be used as preliminary data for a future action plan or intervention to reduce the stress of prison inmates and provide appropriate stress management activities for prisoners.en_US
