Abstract: | This thesis bases on my experience acquired during the 4 years in my life as a student in the Faculty of health sciences between 2018 to 2022. The main purpose is to convey my personal attitude towards the aforementioned experience through the forms of monsters and imaginary world maps. The theoretical study includes a research in the origin and meanings of monster in relation to the human mind, as well as the meaning of life in psychological aspect. In order to search for a particular technique that is suitable for portraying the core concept of the thesis, the literature review also includes an analytic study of artworks which utilizes images of monsters for visualizing personal experiences, such as the artworks created by Narath Boriboonhiranthana, Ito Junji, Somchai Wacharasombat, some character designs from video games, as well as my own artworks created in the past. Subsequent to the theoretical study and technical research, the practical outcome was created in forms of 13 monsters and 4 imaginary world maps utilizing techniques of paper cutting, ink line drawing as well as invisible ink which was used to inscribe and conceal some visual contents. Whereas the group of monstrous characters is a visual representation of my attitude towards some people I have met during the time studying in the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, each world map represents how I saw the world around me in each year I spent there. Because of the fact that the images and messages written by invisible ink would be revealed only when they are exposed to UV light, therefore, this particular technique is also a metaphor for stories and feelings which were concealed and hidden deep in my mind. |
