Abstract

The purpose of this study is to translate the Apraxia of Speech Rating Scale into Thai language, and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Apraxia of Speech Rating Scale Thai version (ASRS-TH). Validity was examined through sensitivity and specificity, and reliability was examined through intra-rater reliability and inter-rater reliability. The participants were comprised of 30 adults with neurological speech or language disorders from cerebrovascular accident, traumatic brain injury, or neurodegenerative disease; age from 26 to 84 years. Results from this study showed sensitivity of the ASRS-TH was 88.5% and specificity of the ASRS-TH was 86.3% with a cut-off at 20. Reliability was computed through intraclass correlation (ICC). Intra-rater ICCs were 0.991 and 0.972, and inter-rater ICC was 0.903 for total ASRS-TH score. These results suggested that the ASRSTH is a reliable and valid instrument to describe the presence and severity of characteristics of apraxia of speech. The ASRS-TH could be used as a clinical tool and subject description in apraxia of speech research.
