Abstract: Tai Lue is considered a group of Tai people who migrated for a long time ago. Additionally, they accepted cultural exchanges with dynamic architectural styles in different contexts. This article aimed to study the dynamic of vernacular architecture Thai Lue houses in Ban Huai Meng, Chiang Rai Province. It consisted of an analysis of the house plan, the shapes of the house, structures, materials, and folk wisdoms inside those houses to develop the understanding of typical architectural styles brought by acceptance of Lanna culture. It was regarded as the qualitative research through the field surveys by selecting a total of 15 houses aged over 20 years. The surveys and interviews with folk scholars, community leaders and house owners were accordingly conducted. Afterwards, the data obtained from the field surveys were analyzed through the data classifications to investigate the changing architectural styles before the data from the literature reviews on the dynamics of vernacular architecture were synthesized. The research results were divided into 6 aspects: 1) the house plan settlement; 2) the physical shapes of the houses; 3) the floor plans and sequential access; 4) the structures and materials; 5) lifestyles and space utilization in the house; and 6) development of the house. Regarding the dynamic changes of the vernacular architecture Thai Lue houses, the first change was their physical shape, including structures and materials. A consideration over the space plans and lifestyles showed that the original styles still remained due to traditional lifestyles passed on in the form of space utilization and sequential access in the house. In addition, the words used to call the components of the house, daily lifestyles, and folk beliefs are still observable until the modern days.
