Abstract

The research “Cultural Heritage Management of Wat Kuhapimook, Mueang District, Yala Province” aims at study the background knowledge of southern peninsula of Thailand including social and cultural context of Yala province. Moreover, it also studies social and cultural context of Ban Na Tham community, as well as the residents’ potential of participating the cultural heritage management of the area, in order to provide the plan for cultural heritage management of Wat Kuhapimook, Mueang District, Yala province, to be a learning center and cultural tourist attraction. The management process will go along with 3 major concepts, 1) cultural heritage management concept, a sustainable conservation and development for the cultural heritage site and precious objects, 2) learning resource management concept, meaning of the learning center is a place that gathering information, and 3) cultural tourism concept. Regarding to the history of Ban Na Tham community, Mueang District, Yala province, shows clearly historical values itself, while the ancient remains and priceless antiques were also found in the area of Ban Na Tham community and in Wat Kuhapimook. These cultural heritages indicate the civilization that inherited since prehistorical period until present day. Moreover, they obviously show the prosperity of the southern peninsula of Thailand involving people’s way of life and their beliefs. Now, because of many factors including lacking of knowledge and understanding the historical values, these cultural heritages have been deteriorated. If people still ignore this problem and not realize about the conservation, they may lose their important heritages. According to the information found in this research, cultural diversity is one of the outstanding points of Yala province, which should be supported to make more benefit for many issues, like education, tourism and economic. This area should be known as a cultural learning center and one of tourist attraction of southern Thailand.
