Abstract: This study entitled “Attitude and Behavior of Plagiarism Among Chiang Mai University Undergraduate Students” had the objectives of studying the attitudes and behavior regarding plagiarism by undergraduate students of Chiang Mai University. The sample group consisted of -70 students from years 1-4 of the university. The tool for data collecting was a questionnaire. The data was analyzed using frequency, percentage mean and standard deviation and the f-test. The findings were as follows: Regarding the attitude about the university overseeing academic ethics, the sample group felt that the penalty applied by the university was appropriate. They felt the instructors should teach and explain as well as prevent the students from committing plagiarism. At the same time, the library should provide the services about plagiarism prevention or detection programs along with having the role of providing instruction and training on how to avoid plagiarism and how to do citation and reference or bibliographies. It was also found that 72.27 percent of the students did not know about the penalty of plagiarism set by the university. Regarding plagiarism and their experiences, students in the sample felt that the behavior was high among students. The behavior affected their relationship with friends in that they would not be accepted by their classmates and their close friends could not agree with their behavior when they found out that the students had copied other people’s work or their own work respectively. The methods of plagiarism that were used mostly were cut and paste from the Internet without citation or references followed by the cut and paste from written documents without citation or references respectively. Regarding the causes of plagiarism, the sample group felt that it was due to convenient access to the Internet followed by the nature of electronic documents that made it easy to copy and the students wish to get a good grade. As for penalty, although the students agreed with the penalty of the university, they felt it should not be so severe as to be removed from student status or to be suspended from the study. They thought the penalty should be at a moderate level, which was reprimanding and allowing the students to re-take the examination or resubmitting the exercise for that particular course and lastly, to be put on probation respectively.
