Abstract: This study surveyed the larval trematodes from pond snails, Filopaludina martensi martensi. This snail is a popular food item and is important for the local economy. The snails were collected from eight localities in Chiang Mai province from February 2020 to January 2021. The result showed seven larval trematodes including, one sporocyst (xiphidiocercaria sporocyst), one redia (echinostome cercaria), four types of cercaria; xiphidiocercaria, cercariaeum cercaria, echinostome cercaria and furcocercous cercaria (vivax cercaria and strigea cercaria) and two species of metacercaria; Echinostoma revolutum and Thapariella anastomusa. The highest prevalence was found in Cho Lae sub-district, Mae Taeng district (20.34%). The highest intensity was found in Chang Moi sub-district, Mueang district (39,771.45). The highest abundance was found in Harn Kaeo sub-district, Hang Dong district (4373.69). For the xiphidiocercaria infection, which can develop to several animal and human trematodes, the highest prevalence, intensity and abundance were found in Harn Kaeo sub-district, Hang Dong district as 13% 554.8 and 77.06 respectively. The result of the morphological study based on a compound microscope demonstrated the xiphidiocercaria from this study were categorized in cercariae microcotylae group. This xiphidiocercaria absent the virgula organ in the region of the oral sucker. The scanning electron microscope revealed the body surface of xiphidiocercaria covered with spines and the tail surface showed the transverse striation. The DNA fingerprint of HAT-RAPD technique confirmed the xiphidiocercaria from eight localities in a similar group. The identification and phylogenetic tree used the sequencing of the ITS2 and 28S ribosomal DNA were confirmed that the xiphidiocercaria from F. martensi martensi belongs to Paralecithodendrium longiforme with 100% and 98% bootstrap support values. So, this study present molecular identification of the xiphidiocercaria of P. longiforme for the first time in Thailand.
