Abstract

This study was a qualitative research which aims to analyze content presentation of Pga K'nyau identities in songs and to study Pga K'nyau identities presented in songs of the artists. It focused on examining the lyrics and in-depth interview. There were 3 methods using in this study which are interviewing, content analysis, and creating an identity category. The study found that content of Pga K'nyau identities presented in 9 categories which were: 1. Moving to the city 2. Traditional beliefs, Buddhism and Christianity 3. The relationship between Thailand and Pga K'nyau 4. Love 5. Friendship 6. The teachings of Pga K'nyau 7. Dynamics and adaptation 8. Pga K'nyau way of life and 9. Songs without lyrics but giving the opportunity to interpret according to the song name. It also found that Pga K'nyau identities presented in songs in 3 categories: Personal identity, it was created from experience about perspective toward oneself. Collective identity, it based on the concept of ethnic history to create cultural power. Social identity, it enhances value and meaning of culture to create new concept of Pga K'nyau as Thai citizens with cultural diversities who have rights, freedom, and human being. In addition, decision making to present the identities related to power relations with the area where they had to interact with. Therefore, Pga K'nyau identities never disappear and adapt according to the context of location and time.
