Abstract: The study of ‘Purpose of Music: A Philosophical Reflection on Schopenhauer and the Vedanta’ is a documentary research that attempt to first, research the notion of music on Schopenhauer and Vedanta. Second, analyze the purpose of music. The study discovered that Schopenhauer and Vedanta both propose that music can connect to metaphysical truth. According to Schopenhauer, music is instrumental music without words that can express itself as absolute music through universal language. Thus, through musical components, music can directly express the will. On the other hand, music in Vedanta is the same as Brahman, who creates things through soundless vibration and uses sound vibrations as a tool for religious ceremonies. In order to reach God or religious truth. The purpose of music according to Schopenhauer and Vedanta has two levels. First, the internal purpose is to reflect the nature of the Will and Brahman. The second, external purpose is to be a tool that leads the audience to abandon themselves and enter an unconscious meditation in order to discover the truth. Through aesthetic contemplation and santarasa.
