Abstract: | In this study, the effect of trivalent samarium ion dopant on the tellurite (Te1) and fluorotellurite (FTe1) glasses properties have been investigated. The samples with compositions of the 54TeO2–10ZnO–35BaO-1Sm2O3 (Te1) and 54TeO2–10ZnF2–35BaO-1Sm2O3 (FTe1) were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique. The results shown that the densities and molar volume of the Te1 sample were 5.2443 g/cm3 and 28.7515 cm3/mol, respectively, while those of the FTe1 sample were 5.2731 g/cm3 and 30.0460 cm3/mol. The six bands of absorption spectra were observed at 946, 1084, 1236, 1383, 1491 and 1546 nm, which were the electron transitions from 6H15/2 to 6F11/2, 6F9/2, 6F7/2, 6F5/2, 6F3/2 and 6H15/2, respectively. The trends of the J-O parameters were found to be in the sequence of Ω4> Ω2> Ω6. The electron radiative relaxation from 4G5/2 to 6H5/2 (564 nm), 6H7/2 (600 nm),6H9/2 (646 nm) and 6H11/2 (708 nm) released four emission spectra peaks. The lifetime taken from the highest peak (4G5/2 to 6H5/2 transition) were 0.657 ms from Te1 sample and 0.976 ms FTe1 sample. Finally, the orange emitting from Sm3+ doped glasses were investigated by CIE 1931 chromaticity. Tellurite glass has an opportunity to apply in scintillator material. |
