Abstract

This study aimed at to perceive the faith which appeared in a Contemporary Lanna Crowned Buddha Images in Chiang Mai (1997-2017 A. D.). The study has found that the creation of contemporary Lanna crowned Buddha images had involved the creation of the emperor in the Chompoo Bodi Sutra and the creation of Phra Sri Ariya Maitri. In terms of artistic styles characteristics of the robes had evolved in the Pala style of art it used to create a Buddba image in Lanna. The study has found that there is some belief has been changed from the past, the creator aimed to response to the objective, and the place of buddha image has approved the Chompoo Bodi Sutra to show wealthiness and also fortune. In addition, the creation of Phra Sri Ariya Maitreya is also used to create a Buddha image as the main Buddha image in the chapel, the concept of a local Lanna Buddha image was used to create a Buddha image such as Phra Tan Jai, Buddha images associated with the King, Buddha image of the city, and Buddha image of fortune. Creation of contemporary Lanna crowned Buddha images in Chiang Mai caused by the social context that has changed from the traditional, there was cultural reproduction by bringing up the original art form then has made it more pronounced and added something new to respond to the tourism and capitalist context in the form of amulets. They also built the creation of contemporary Lanna crowned buddha images to locate in the others area in the north of Thailand. At the same time, the context of globalization and communication has resulted in artistic forms, it beliefs from other sources blended with the original belief in creating contemporary Lanna style Buddha images.
