Abstract: This research aimed to study (1) force and motion held by upper-secondary students, (2) the results of Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) approach and Cooperative Learning (CL) Technique on the conceptions of force and motion among grade-10 students at an ethnic school in Chiang Mai located near Thailand-Burma border. It was carried out in the first semester of 2019 academic year. The target group of the first objective were upper-secondary students (n=95). The tool was a force and motion concept test which designed to probe students' conceptions of the acting of different forces in different contexts (9 items), force and motion related to the first and second laws of Newton (8 items) and, force and motion related to the third law of Newton (6 items). Addition interview were done to confirm the results. The target group of the second objective were a total of 32 grade-10 students (n=32). The tools were a total of 4-POE approach with CL technique lesson plans (IOC > 0.85) and the force and motion concept test used in the first section. The results indicate that (1) It is found that students' conception of the acting of different forces in different contexts is highest (X-bar = 38.95%, SD = 25.15%). While students' conceptions of force and motion related to the first and second laws of Newton is lowest (X-bar = 30.53 %, SD = 23.04 %) Additional interview results do confirm the quantitative data. (2) the POE approach with CL technique help increased students' conception of force and motion at a medium level (<g> = 0.41).
