Abstract: The English language education in adult education industry in China has achieved remarkable results. Meanwhile, a variety of reasons have led to Chinese students' insufficient English speaking proficiency. Consequently, to propose the reason that causes the difficulties in Spoken English teaching of Chinese students is beneficial for the further development of English language teaching in China. A gap analysis based on the teaching theories will be used as an approach to identifying the causes. From a developmental perspective, this article would be particularly useful for teachers to teach Chinese adult learners.
