Abstract: Most persons with stroke tend to experience joint contraction and disability. Family empowerment through joint exercises is very important in reducing joint contraction conditions. This is a quasi-experimental research, with one-group repeated measurements. The objective was to study the empowerment program of family practice for joint exercises for persons with stroke in Sribuaban Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lamphun Province. The sample was 21 family members who were acting as primary caregivers and received the empowerment program which was developed based on Gibson's empowerment framework (Gibson, 1995) for 6 weeks consisted of 1) discovering reality, 2) critical reflection, 3) taking charge, and 4) holding on. The experimental instruments consisted of 1) the empowerment program of family practice for joint exercises for persons with stroke 2) signboards or posters of joint exercises for persons with stroke 3) Power Point for teaching and 4) QR code. The instruments were approved by six experts and the content validity index was 0.90. The research instrument for data collecting consisted of 1) family general information questionnaire and 2) family practice for joint exercises for persons with stroke, for which the tested Kuder-Richardson coefficient for reliability was 0.82. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Signed-Rank test. The research findings showed a statistically significantly mean score of the family practice for joint exercises after receiving the empowerment program higher than before receiving the empowerment program (z=2.93, p<0.01). The results revealed that the empowerment program can be used as a guideline to promote family practice for joint exercises for persons with stroke in order to enhance knowledge, ability, and confidence of family for taking care of persons with stroke continuously and effectively, resulting in families and persons with stroke achieving better quality of life.
