Abstract: This Cross-sectional study aimed to investigate perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers and preventive behavior for Streptococcus suis infection and study the relationship between perception and preventive behavior of people in Pua sub-district, Amphur Pua, Nan province. Samples of the study were 368 people selected by simple random sampling. Developed interview forms were used to collect the data. The data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The relationships between factors were analyzed by Chi - Square statistics. The results from the study showed that perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers for Streptococcus suis infection were high, the preventive behavior for the infection was in moderate level. Association between perceived susceptibility and preventive behavior, as well as between perceived barriers and preventive behavior was statistically significant (P-value < 0.001 and < 0.001 accordingly). Contrarily associations between perceived severity and preventive behavior (P-value = 0.171) and those between perceived benefits and preventive behavior (P-value = 0.554) were found not statistically significant. In conclusion, some behavior of study population was in low level, which not conformed to their perception. More behavior modification should be introduced in order to encourage preventive behavior for Streptococcus suis in this population.
