Abstract: © 2018, Australian Ceramic Society. Bismuth-oxy-iodate (BiOIO 3 ) nanostructure was successfully synthesized by a microwave-assisted method. Phase, morphology, and optical properties of the as-synthesized products were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR, and UV-visible spectroscopy. In this research, the as-synthesized products were composed of orthorhombic BiOIO 3 nanoplates. The Bi–O bending vibration showed a strong band at 513 cm −1 and I–O bending vibration showed as weak bands at 685 and 773 cm −1 . The photocatalytic properties were evaluated through photodegradation of rhodamine B (RhB) induced by xenon visible radiation. The BiOIO 3 nanoplates synthesized by 360 W microwave for 60 min with energy band gap of 2.75 eV have the highest photocatalytic activity of 98.9% within 60 min.
