Abstract: © 2018 IEEE. The objectives of this study are to design, produce, and test an intake manifold for Student Formula in order to establish a high torque band to cover a mid-range engine speed; in addition, the aim is to experimentally investigate for a suitable material for intake manifold gaskets in order to reduce the heat transfer from the engine which accumulates in the intake manifold's body. All parts were installed on the Student Formula CMU F-611, which was produced by following the Formula SAE rules. It could be understood from the design that both the inlet angle and the outlet angle of a restrictor are 14°. The capacity of an air surge tank is 1,237 cm3. A bell-mouth has an inlet internal diameter of 58 mm and a length of 30 mm. The inside diameter and the length of each of the intake runners equals to 36 mm and 345 mm, respectively. A test on the chassis dynamometer showed that the maximum torque was 50.8 N.m at an engine speed of 7,000 rpm - findings which met the initial requirement of the design. In addition, the non-asbestos gasket was found to be the most suitable gasket for reducing the cumulative heat in the intake manifold, while the paper gasket was the most suitable gasket from the point of economy.
