The Premprachakorn flood diversion tunnel (OD = 4.05 m.) first shortcut tunnel of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to divert the flood water in the city to the Choa Phraya river. The MRT subway tunnel (OD = 6.3 m.) of Bangkok city just opened in 2004 consists of dual tunnel for 20 km. long. Both tunnels seated in the very stiff sillty clay layer with some alternated with dense sillty sand layer between 15-24m. depths below ground surface. The empirical approaches for prediction ground surface settlement base on Peck (1969) and O'Reilly & New (1982) was presented. Based on subsurface ground response due to shield tunneling of two tunnel projects, newly developed correlation for prediction subsurface settlement is presented in terms of tunnel radius and tunnel depth. © 2005 Taylor & Francis Group.en_US
