Abstract: | The different theoretical aspects of the problems of representing and processing uncertainty in intelligent systems are presented at the Mathematical Foundations sessions of the Fourth International Conference on Intelligent Technologies InTech'03, Chiang Mai, Thailand, in December 17-19, 2003. The requirement for more application-driven theoretical developments, such as numerous successful practical applications of different uncertainty techniques based on well-developed theories are discussed. Probabilistic method can be applied for describing uncertainty, in which the uncertainty is described by probability measures. A fuzzy set can be viewed as an equivalent class of random sets. The most general description of each type of uncertainty including interval and fuzzy uncertainties are required to combine those individual types of uncertainty. |
