dc.description.abstractBased on 150 thin-sections, the Carboniferous-Permian carbonate rocks in the Chiang Dao area were classified into eight microfacies: oosparite, pelsparite, cortoidsparite, oncoidsparite, biosparite, biomicrite, intrasparite, and dolostone. These microfacies occur in tidal flat, tidal inlet, tidal bar, and lagoonal depositional environments. The tectonic setting of the Chiang Dao carbonate rocks is different from that of the carbonate rocks in peninsular Thailand. These northern Thailand rocks were deposits of a warm tropical environment rather than of the cold glacial environment that existed in southern Thailand during Carboniferous and Permian time.en_US
