Abstract: | In this work, we have studied the effects of camphor addition on the properties of porous ceramics of P2O5-CaO-Na2O glass for biomedical applications. Mixed powders were formed into pellets and subsequently sintered at the temperatures ranging between 550 and 650°C. The sintered ceramics were investigated in terms of pore characteristics, phase formation, and in vitro bioactivity. The pore sizes of the structures were observed by SEM to be in the range of 150-400 μm. XRD results revealed that calcium phosphate and sodium phosphate phases were formed in the porous ceramics. In vitro bioactivity was assessed in SBF solution and the results confirm the formation of apatite like cells on the surface of all glass ceramic compositions.
