Abstract: The study of the deprivation of Indexicality, a way to interpretation of the meaning in Photography, a relationship or reference which links between icon in the image to subjects in the real world. It’s also reflects the reality and reliability in the Photography by analyzing through Photography’s historical, concepts, paradigms and social phenomena that happen to photos. The result indicates that the deprivations of Indexicality are occurred in two separate levels. Firstly, the signifiers (Icon) lack of clarity that is not able to notify viewers to identify the original object. The deprivation of Indexicality affected in the Denotation state, translation of a sign to its meaning. Caused by an error in the photographic practice or interfered by photographer to distort or manipulate the context of photography. The deprivation in this level may not much change the identically meaning but the reliability of photography is questioned. Secondly, the deprivation of Indexicality as the Indexicality is shifted and affected in Connotation state. It’s occurred deven though the icon/signifiers can refer to the original object accurately but the identifying of the associating meaning is interrupted. As the Arbitrariness can be found when the photographs are interacting with the social interaction which the interpretation are originated outside the photographic frame, the possibility of unclear meanings makes the Indexicality become instability. As well as the reality and meaning is no longer accurate and occur able to allgenres of photography.
