Abstract

This research aimed to evaluate the relationship between book circulation at the Faculty of Agriculture Library and the curriculum of the Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Agriculture (2010), Chiang Mai University. The qualitative evaluation was used to analyze the information resources record and content relationship between book collections at the Faculty of Agriculture Library and the curriculum of the Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Agriculture along with the circulation statistics of books. The findings revealed that the library was able to acquire books corresponding to the curriculum. There are 8,326 books related to the courses offered, accounted for 49.46 percent of the book collection in the library (16,834 books), consisting of 3,029 Thai books and 5,297 foreign languages books. Among these, there were 559 books printed between 2009-2013, which made up 6.72 percent of the books related to the courses offered and 2,115 (25.40 percent) printed between 1999-2008 and 5,652 (67.88 percent) printed before 1999. The subject areas that had the highest number of books in the library were those related to the core courses (5,123 copies), followed by those of Field Crops (2,218 copies) and Animal Science (1,967 copies). The subject areas that had the least number of books were those related to Plant Pathology (690 copies). Comparing the statistics with those of the library standards (2001), it was found that the book collection was in accordance with the standards in all subject areas, 500 copies for the Bachelor’s Degree and 15 copies/ 1 student. Four subject areas that met the standard for the number of book per students were the core courses, Agricultural Promotion, Animal Science and Plant Pathology. As for the number of book per faculty instructor (100/ 1 instructor), it was found to be in accordance with the standard in all subject areas. As for relationship between the book collection and circulation, the 24-month backward circulation statistics showed that the maximum number of books checked out was between 1-100 times in all subject areas and five subject areas had a check out rate of over 500 times.
