Abstract: | This Independent Study was a survey of the need for a Technology and Information of the Investigation Division, Provincial Police Region 5, based on the current situation related to traffic information via computer and the POLIS (Police Information Search) system in terms of problems and weaknesses, relevant to the needs and opinions about the ability for real application of the system. The study was conducted using an interview form for 18 police officers of the Investigation Division of the Provincial Police Region 5, most of whom were responsible for investigation of crimes, narcotic drug trafficking, children and women, including collecting information, crime analysis, providing technological tools and investigation data. These police officers had been serving for an average of 5-27years. The study results revealed that the current situation was the lack of computers or suitable modern tools for checking the information, especially the complication and installing the programs on computers, the officers’lack of understanding of the traffic information via computer as well as too little availability of POLIS whereas the law related to collecting Internet usage information not having been actually enforced. The respondents gave significance to tools and equipment like computers and other investigation equipment. This was due to the old and outdated computers causing problems for installing some newly developed programs and systems making them incompatible. Therefore, it would be better and easier to work by special or single work specification for investigation function only. This would surely reduce the access procedureand installation complication to speed up the operation and efficiency. In addition, there should be some training to improve the personnel to be ready to handle the available equipment to enable them to be advisers and specialists. It is advisable to have the process to apply the technology and information system to the operation of police officers in the Investigation Division of the Provincial Police, Region 5 by issuing an order to set up a Technological and Information System Operation Center. The suitable location for the center should allow convenience in the coordination along with assigning officers or personnel for the center to coordinate and provide support at all time while adequate budget should be allocated for the center site, operation, equipment and relevant expenses. |
